The Maritime Industry Authority, known by the acronym MARINA, is an agency of the Philippine government under the Department of Transportation responsible for integrating the development, promotion and regulation of the maritime industry in the Philippines.

MARINA oversees the promotion and development of the maritime industry and also ensures effective regulation of shipping companies. Since its inception in June 1994, MARINA has been authorized to issue Certificates of Public Interest (CPC) authorizing the operation of watercraft domestically and internationally. The agency’s other responsibilities include registering vessels, issuing licenses, addressing safety concerns related to building vessels, and enforcing the laws of the sea. MARINA develops, promotes and promotes all companies involved in the design, construction, manufacture, acquisition, operation, supply, repair and/or maintenance of ships or their components and the management and/or operation of shipping lines, shipyards.   • Education: Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation
  • Eligibility: Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) under Regulation II/2 or III/2 or II/1 or III/1 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended
  • Training: IMO Model Course 6.09; 3.12; 6.10

(2) Board Of Marine Engine Officers (BOMEO) (Php 145,427 Monthly Salary)

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering
  • Eligibility: Registered Chief Engineer Officer; Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) under Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended
  • Training: IMO Modeul Course 6.09, 3.12 and 6.10

(3) Board Of Engine Ratings (BOERA) (Php 88,410 Monthly Salary)

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering
  • Eligibility: Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) under Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended
  • Training: IMO Model Course 6.09, 3.12 and 6.10

(4) Board of Deck Ratings (BODRA) (Php 88,410 Monthly Salary)

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation
  • Eligibility: Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) under Regulation II/1 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended
  • Training: IMO Model Course 6.09, 3.12 and 6.10
